Dr. Richerson is the President of HopeTree Family Services. He has been employed with the agency since November, 2002 and has served as a Trustee since 1985, including seven years as Board President. He assumed duties as President & Executive Director in January, 2003.
Dr. Richerson was born in Tennessee, but claims Virginia as his home state. He earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Richmond and holds both the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
After college, Dr. Richerson was a Branch Manager with Old Point National Bank in Hampton, VA. Over the course of 25 years, he served as an Associate Pastor, a Minister of Music and Youth, and as Senior Pastor in Virginia and North Carolina. Dr. Richerson also taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond and in extension programs for the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Richerson also served as a volunteer Chaplain at local hospitals in Richmond and Newport News for over 20 years.
Dr. Richerson has been active in his community, including offices in Neighborhood Associations, soccer coaching, and was involved in leadership for a Summer Swim club. As a layman he has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Music Director and Youth Director. He has been an Associational moderator, chaired several Associational Committees, and served on the Virginia Baptist Mission Board.
Dr. Richerson is married to Rebecca (Becky) Darnell Richerson. They have three adult children: Rev. Mary Richerson Mann, Susan Harper, and James Richerson and seven grandchildren. Dr. & Mrs. Richerson are members of Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke.
