Single-story home in Glen Allen is HopeTree’s most accessible and technologically advanced home, designed to provide lifelong accessibility, safety, and independence for residents
RICHMOND, VA (July 15, 2026) – HopeTree Family Services celebrated the opening of the Houston Home on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Virginia State Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg, supporters, and advocates. From secure badge-access technology to a fully accessible, single-story layout, the Houston Home was intentionally designed to enhance safety, independence, and long-term quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Located in Glen Allen, Houston Home reflects HopeTree’s ongoing commitment to expanding high-quality residential options for adults with IDD in the Greater Richmond area. The residence will provide four adult men with a comfortable place to call home by offering private bedrooms and welcoming shared spaces, including a sunroom. Purposely designed to meet residents’ needs throughout every stage of life, the Houston Home features a wheelchair-accessible entrance with a ramp, spacious single-story living, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote independence, comfort, and stability.
“Houston Home represents far more than a new residence; it’s a place where individuals can build meaningful relationships, exercise greater independence, and truly belong within their community,” said Randi Paxton, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at HopeTree Family Services. “Every element of this home was intentionally designed to support dignity, choice, and connection to ensure individuals have the opportunity to thrive today and for years to come.”
The opening also represents a new standard of care at HopeTree. With features such as secure badge access for entry to the home and medication storage, residents and staff have additional safety while supporting efficient, high-quality service.
